Scolops sulcipes

Scolops sulcipes
Reed Turner Woodland, Lake County, Illinois, USA
August 21, 2006
I know this is a Scolops species. Just want to learn how to tell the Scolops angustatus from the Scolops sulcipes. i see the meshwork in the wings so I lean towards Scolops sulcipes. My guess is the veination is not simple enough to be the Scolops angustatus.

Scolops sulcipes
... and in addition, S. angustatus has a paler (nearly white) costal cell - that's the lower edge of the forewing when the wings are folded.

thanks...this is really helpf
thanks...this is really helpful info. Hope to see the S. angustatus next.

I think you're right
Andy Hamilton commented on the "mesh-veined wing tips" in this photo of S. sulcipes, and said that other Scolops species have simpler venation, such as this one of S. angustatus, which is a pretty dark photo but you can make out that the wing tips are not as mesh-veined.

update
I lightened the S. angustatus image linked to above, and increased the contrast to make the wing venation more noticeable.

thanks robin...we will wait f
thanks robin...we will wait for the final say from Andy.

Scolops sulcipes
Thats what I think also but I haven't done much with Scolops, only seen about 12 or so before and only ID'd like 4 of em.
