Neoneurus
Identified by Dr. Michael Sharkey as Neoneurus, an ant parasitoid in the family Braconidae. This is a new genus for Bug Guide. The sufamily Neoneurinae, in which it would fall, already exists on Bug Guide, but I am awaiting resolution of the question about whether or not there is a consensus about the preferred status of the group: tribe Neuronini of sufamily Euphorinae, versus subfamily Neoneurinae.

wow, how cool!
thanks Bob and Michael for the ID! neat new genus

Thanks
Thank you for submitting this pair of interesting images. On the Neoneurus info page, I linked to a YouTube video of a Neoneurus species ovipositing in Formica ants. The video shows how the curved ovipositor functions.

awesome video!
makes sense, there's tons of Formica in my pit traps
