IMPG-33373-1 Yellowjacket on apple core - Vespula maculifrons - male

IMPG-33373-1 Yellowjacket on apple core - Vespula maculifrons - Male
Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge, Coffey County, Kansas, USA
December 1, 2012
Size: small, about 1/2 inch
I was eating lunch and this little fellow landed on my hand and started licking where I had touched my apple. I transferred him to the apple core and he continued to eat the whole time I was there, 10 or 15 minutes. I placed both on the side of the road when I left. Insects are not my strong suite but I like to try and get a Proper ID on all of my nature shots and file them.

The clypeal pattern would suggest Vespula maculifrons
I am almost positive plus you can also determine the side of the arrow shaped mark on T-1 if you look closely.

Vespula Vulgaris
Thank you for the clarification
