A splendid example
This shows exactly what Evans was talking about when he mentioned something about this species being beyond description with respect to color. The other wasp showed nearly all rufous and yellow but this one shows still some rufous but mainly black, with virtually no reddish tones on the head and thorax. A couple of years ago I collected a specimen that had virtually no rufous at all, just faint edges along the apical part of each abdominal tergite and showed a tremendous amount of yellow.

i do love these wasps... and they do almost defy description.
