Sweetpotato Armyworm Moth - Spodoptera dolichos - female

Sweetpotato Armyworm Moth - Spodoptera dolichos - Female
n.w. Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA
December 8, 2012
Size: FW ~22mm
After a consult with Ed Knudson and further study, this moth has been identified as Spodoptera dolichos rather than S. pulchella as first suspected. The key field marks are in the extensive white between the anal vein and the rear margin of the FW and other details of that particular area. Unfortunately, the moth was stepped on by someone in my family before I could photograph it. This represents a 2nd TX image for BG. The specimen is now in the U. Texas Insect Collection. UTIC has 4 other Travis Co. specimens of the species collected by J. Gillaspy (dates ranging from 3 Jul to 15 Nov).
