Straight-lanced Meadow Katydid - Conocephalus strictus - female

Straight-lanced Meadow Katydid - Conocephalus strictus - Female
Bennett Place, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
August 27, 2006
Size: 14 mm
Apparently has to be this species due to the extreme length of the ovipositor. Captured and posed. Body length was 14 mm. The ovipositor was an additional 24 mm!

Repeating references from another photo--see ranges and the diagram of ovipositors for this genus at Singing Insects of North America, it seems this is Straight-lanced Meadow Katydid, Conocephalus strictus. The very long ovipositor seems to be distinctive.
