Geophilomorpha? - Strigamia

Geophilomorpha? - Strigamia
Soquel, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
January 3, 2013
This one confused me because I did not realize centipedes could have so many legs! It has in the neighborhood of 150 legs, I think. The presence of dark sharp looking "fangs" marks it as a centipede, however, it moves much more like a millipede, complete with the nearly 180 degree turns, and the habit of suspending a long segment of its body over a ledge and waving it around, cobra style, as it decides how to proceed.

This one was encountered in a small stack of bricks in the dirt.

I did not measure it but maybe something like 3 inches long.
