butterfly spider - Araneus pegnia

butterfly spider - Araneus pegnia
Newport near Banning Park, New Castle County, Delaware, USA
January 14, 2013
A. pegnia, I guess. I have pegnia on the brain.
Found hanging from deck rail after a cold drizzling rain.
It was chilled, I suppose, so it allowed a broom as
backdrop so I could get just a tad better focus.

Interesting
that does look right. Any chance you got any other shots? This one doesn't quite show the entire pattern.

not any showing the spots, but
since you asked so nicely, I did add a couple
where the broom is nicely focused. :o)
(Best I could find)
