Size: 1 inch
It posed nicely for me until I got too close. It has a Western idea of personal space.

Monochamus
It's a cerambycid beetle in the genus Monochamus. Interestingly, the first pair of wings (elytra) are fused so that the beetle is flightless.

I assume you mean Moneilema sp., maybe armata - the cactus longhorn beetle

 
Cactus Longhorn
Makes sense, it was happy on that cactus. I tried to find it in the guide but had no luck. Thanks for the ID.

 
Usually nocturnal.
Try looking on cactus pads at night, and you will probably see several. These beetles are also thought to mimic the Eleodes darkling beetles, right down to standing on their heads when overtly threatened.
