I've always thought these looked like male nocturnal velvet ants, but I couldn't find any that had been identified as such. If more views from different angles (not of the same individual though) would be of help, let me know. Thank you!

Nocturnal velvet ant males can usually be identified to genus by looking at the armature on the underside of the thorax. It may be difficult to capture on a live specimen however.
