Harvester caterpillar - Feniseca tarquinius

Harvester caterpillar - Feniseca tarquinius
Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA
August 31, 2006
Size: ~15 mm
Fellow caterpillar enthusiasts will appreciate what an exciting find this was for me. I had been watching this aphid colony on Smilax/greenbriar for a few weeks, but then I changed my walking route so I hadn't checked on them recently . Today I found two of these caterpillars harvesting the aphids. They appeared to be almost full-grown - I might have missed them if I hadn't taken that old route again today.

Yes, excellent find!
