Potter wasp? Anything more precise possible? - Leptochilus republicanus

Potter wasp? Anything more precise possible? - Leptochilus republicanus
Port Republic, Atlantic County, New Jersey, USA
August 28, 2006
I'm on a project trying to ID all insects nectaring on a single bush in my wife's garden (a mountain mint). Surprisingly difficult task; maybe not possible for a novice armed only with a camera? Discussion at one of the possible matches here suggests it's hard to say anything more specific than Eumeninae . And maybe that's not even correct. So many wasps, so similarly colored!

Moved from Leptochilus.

Leptochilus republicanus, female (NJ)
The only other species of this genus in NJ, L. acolhuus, has a distinct swelling between the ocelli, narrower temples (= the area behind the compound eye) and a yellow submarginal carina of the propodeum (= the process above the hind coxae; black in republicanus). A fairly rare species that is great to have on bugguide.

Sorry for having overlooked these nice pics untils now.

R.V. Thank you for the ID

Thank you for the ID -- more helpful than you may realize.

Mason wasp.
Not a true 'potter,' but in the Eumeninae. Matthias Buck, or Richard Vernier, could probably give you a genus at least. I am decidedly useless until I get more familiar with their anatomy:-)

Thank you,Eric,
