House Centipede - Scutigera coleoptrata

House Centipede - Scutigera coleoptrata
Monona, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
August 24, 2006
This centipede was on a wall in the basement, next to a door frame. I had never really gotten a good close look at one in all these years, but they are actually very beautiful. Surprisingly it didn't move while I took several shots, with and without flash.

I SEE THESE THINGS IN MY APARTMENT ALL THE TIME!!! DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET RID OF THEM? OTHER THAN MY CATS EATING THEM OR SQUISHING THEM. I HATE THOSE BUGS, THEY GIVE ME THE CREEPS! I CALL THEM "HAIRY SCARYS"

Scutigera coleoptrata (L., 17
Scutigera coleoptrata (L., 1758). This is believed to be a European species that has been introduced into North America by man and now occurs throughout the continent. It is often found inside houses in damp, cool spots, like in bathtubs, sinks & drains, and cellars.

Nice shot.
Had to compliment you on a fine shot:-)
