Jim. The abdomen sticks out even further than the pic suggests due to the angle of the shot. Wonder if that has any significance for nailing down a genus eventually?

Could be a gravid female.
It looks like Chauliognathus but I don't know which species. I note that other members of this genus in bugguide all seem to have dark markings to some degree on their pronotum. I shot one species in New Mexico that is all yellow (no elytral markings either) and that one too is not yet identified. Like yours, the abdomen extends considerably beyond the elytra. I'll probably post images this weekend.
