Large Milkweed Bug - Oncopeltus fasciatus - male - female

Large Milkweed Bug - Oncopeltus fasciatus - Male Female
Gainesville, Florida, USA
September 26, 2004
I will withhold opinion on which is which, as I've been getting it wrong lately. Are male bugs smaller than female?

Size varies:-)
Nice image, Hannah. I'll resist the temptation to address whether size MATTERS....There is so much individual variation among insects that it is impossible to make generalizations, including about which gender is larger. In most true bugs I know of, the sexes are about equal in size.
