Bathroom Mosquito - Orthopodomyia signifera - female

Bathroom Mosquito - Orthopodomyia signifera - Female
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
September 1, 2006
Size: 5.0 mm
As many insect pictures as I take, this is only the second mosquito photo, and the first one I took in 1985!

I assume the longest structure up front is the probocis; looks like there is some other, shorter, structure right next to it, about half as long. What is that?

The nice white markings on the thorax look like those in genus Orthopodomyia, could that be what this one is? ID help appreciated.

WOOOHOOO!
yes, finally a good crisp, natural photo of this girl. Orthopodomyia signifera it is. The shorter structure are the maxillary palpi (all mosquitos have two). Excellent Stephen.

Thanks
