Helicopsychidae

Helicopsychidae
Clifty Falls SP, Jefferson County, Indiana, USA
February 25, 2013
These tiny shells were found in gravel debris under a rock, but all appeared to be uninhabited. Is the tiny brown elongate twig looking thing in this photo actually a dead adult out of the shell?

larva
the case on he right appears to be white through some of the translucent grains. There may be a larva in there. They can retract far enough in the spiral that they may not be visible from the opening. To find out you will probably have to slowly dis-mantal the coil.

The elongate larvae appears to be one of the diptera, perhaps Antocha or one of the Tipulidae.
