Bangasternus orientalis (Capiomont 1873)
Identification
can be distinguished from the other seed head beetles, Eustenopus villosus and Larinus curtus, by its much shorter and blunt snout. B. orientalis also has much shorter body hairs than E. villosus
Range
From Northern Greece. native to the Mediterranean basin; released in the US in 1985 to control yellow starthistle (Centaurea solstitialis) (Asteraceae, Cardueae) and became established the same year
