Red-spotted Purple
This is the caterpillar of the Red-spotted Purple (Limenitis arthemis astyanax). They can be distinguished from the caterpillars of the Viceroy (Limenitis archippus), by having much more clubbed antlers.

Thank you for your comment. This is what I thought they were, but most people tried to tell me they were Viceroy. Have never seen a Viceroy butterfly in my yard, but plenty of these. Thanks again, N. O'Banion
