Drumming Katydid - Meconema thalassinum

Drumming Katydid - Meconema thalassinum
Tallmadge, Summit County, Ohio, USA
September 4, 2006

WOW
Brad has done it again. After talking to Ethan we decided this is a Drumming Katydid, Meconema thalassinum. This picture demonstrates one of the most significant range expansions I have ever seen. This is a new species for Ohio! Not just for Bugguide, but for all records. GOOD JOB. I'm very excited.

Good Find!
Yes Brad that was one great find! It really shows how much this European katydid is expanding its range. The Drumming Katydid was first reported on Long Island, New York in 1957. By 1980 it spread to Rhode Island and Ithaca, NY. Recently one was found near Philadelphia and now yours in Ohio. Thanks!

Transcontinental now.
Don't forget at least two records from Vancouver, BC
