Small bee fly - Isn't it Geron? - Geron

Small bee fly - Isn't it Geron? - Geron
Riley Wilderness Park, Coto De Caza, Orange County, California, USA
September 4, 2006
Size: ~5mm
Temperature hit 103, and there wasn't much (hot) insect action. A fair number of bee flies were out, and I saw these tiny tapered guys in the same area. Flowers are freshly blooming, providing food now that the buckwheat has mostly gone brown.

Before getting the photo into the computer, I'd thought "Geron" but am not sure.
