I'll look at the pronotal carina next time to tell the difference between the two. Thanks Richard.

Definitely parasitic (Dolichovespula adulterina arctica) male...
As shown by the pronotal carina, especially visible on this one picture. The left white (so called humeral) stripe ceases abruptly at the "neck"(anterior face of the pronotum). The same structure would be smoothly rounded in a Vespula sp.
