How to create superscripted text in an article page?

Finding out that certain published BBCodes do not work on my managed Forum page is quite frustrating for a low-tech user such as I am. For example, I find that BBCode [sup]12[/sup] does not produce the desired superscripted number "12". Help is appreciated.

No expert
I'm no expert, but I think that phpBB requires some BBcodes to be switched on. At least that was the case on another phpBB forum I know of.

Thanks, but
your answer is difficult for me to decipher. Must I turn on the switch(es) somewhere or is that action out of my control?

I think
BugGuide only interprets/translates a small subset of BBCode, that might be a job for the BugGuide programmers.

Right
What he said!
I meant to say that the site managers might have to turn on certain codes.
