Identification
Adult of Bagisara species : forewing variably pale yellowish to dark brown with three untoothed lines crossing distal half of wing; several species look very similar
Adult of Cydosia species: forewing either all black or with white spots and/or yellow bands (varies within and between species)
Range
southern United States from Florida to California, south to Argentina
Food
larvae of
Bagisara species feed on
wax mallow (
Malvaviscus spp.),
fanpetals (
Sida spp.) and possibly other tropical/subtropical plants
