Anise swallowtail for California in July - Papilio zelicaon

Anise swallowtail for California in July - Papilio zelicaon
Peters Canyon, Orange, Orange County, California, USA
July 21, 2005

Moved
Moved from Giant Swallowtail.

Not Giant
Looks more like Anise (P. zelicaon).

Thanks for setting me straight
I IDed this a year ago before I had any idea of what I was doing. Still, I should have had more sense than to post without looking closely. The Giants are rare here, and I thought the yellow body was a distinguishing mark. Guess I was too eager.

(BTW, there are four swallowtails in this county: Giant, Anise, Western Tiger, and Pale.)
