Mediterranean Fruit Fly - Ceratitis capitata

Mediterranean Fruit Fly - Ceratitis capitata
San Pedro, California, USA
June 17, 2000
Size: about 4.5 mm
Found this fly on a wall in my house 6 years ago. Was looking through old photos, and finally went to identify this.

I used to hear bad things about the medfly on the news a lot. But it sure is beautiful.

Who idenified it?
With all due respect, and because you don't give any credentials in your bio page entry, I wonder who identified this. I'm not saying it is wrong, either, by the way. The "med fly" is indeed a serious potential threat to the California citrus industry, which is why you hear 'bad things' about it. An image identified as a med fly in California would cause a panic amid ag folks, I suspect....

I apologize.
My identification is not authoritative, and I should have said so. I've been fascinated with insects all my life, but I've not done any formal study on the subject.

As a matter of fact I wondered why I even had access to "add image" in species pages; I seemed to remember not always having that access, but I wasn't sure. The access seems to have disappeared now; I assume you revoked it? Why did I have it in the first place?

Please move this to the "ID request" page if you see fit.
