Bombus sp. on Monarda - Bombus insularis - male

Bombus sp. on Monarda - Bombus insularis - Male
6 miles NW Lyons, Boulder County, Colorado, USA
July 10, 2012
This Bombus is on Monarda speciosa, a favorite bumble bee plant here in the foothills. Elevation about 6420'. I have one more photo of lower abdomen. Our closest guess would be B. californicus or B. fervidus, but these are really guesses. Any help is much appreciated.

Bombus insularis male I think
shiny metasoma under the hairs is typical of this subgenus. Note small head.

Bombus insularis male
Thanks so much for this identification. Interesting that a small head is a characteristic trait, as well as the shiny metasoma. I appreciate these clues.
