Bradycellus (Stenocellus) insulsus (Casey) in nigriceps group
based on my microscopic examination of this male specimen (including dissected aedeagus) which is now a photo-voucher in the P.W.Messer collection. Thanks Tom.
I measured ABL at 4 mm long. This species superficially appears like a slightly larger "
B. nigriceps
" but with head notably less blackish, pronotum coarsely punctate basally, microsculpture mesh indistinct atop elytra, mesh more distinct medially on both pronotum and head.
This relatively uncommon eastern species is both new to BugGuide and new to MA, hence added to BugGuide's registry of new carabid records.
