chrysalis - Limenitis arthemis

chrysalis - Limenitis arthemis
Phippsburg (Sebasco Resort), Sagadahoc County, Maine, USA
August 1, 2006
Size: 3/4 inch
This chrysalis was found hanging below a fence surrounding a children's playground. It is shiny and appears to have a caterpillar skin attached near the point of hanging. It was found by a child because he was low enough to see it out of sight from most adults.

Limenitis arthemis
In Maine, this is going to be a White Admiral. Not sure if they are ssp. arthemis or rubrofasciata in that part of the world.

Moved from Butterflies.
