Bicolored Sallow - Sunira bicolorago

Bicolored Sallow - Sunira bicolorago
Ailsa Craig, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada
September 8, 2006
came to light; similar to Yellow Three-Spot (compare images at CBIF) but the flight season of that species is ending, and the Bicolored Sallow's is just beginning

Hi Robin
A few years ago we discovered the supposedly western species S. verberata in southern NB. Almost identical to bicolorago except for hind wing pattern. It it so easy to assume that every specimen in bicolorago unless one is aware that verberata may also be present. Just because verberata is not listed from Ont. don't dismiss its presence.

Thanks for the heads up, Tony
Do you know whether there's also a form of verberata similar to the one in bicolorago whose forewing outer half is dark purplish/grayish? I've seen only one of those so far, among the many that have visited in Sep/Oct the past two years.

Sorry, don't know
I've seen perhaps only half a dozen verberata from NB.
