Soldier Fly - Stratiomys discalis

Soldier Fly - Stratiomys discalis
W Fork Fishtrap Creek Campground, Sanders County, Montana, USA
June 25, 2006
This looks exactly like the image of Stratiomys adelpha in Insects, Their Natural History and Diversity (1).

Close!
I believe that this is Stratiomys discalis. Its a very closely related species but has a slightly different ventral abdomen pattern.

Discalis
Thanks for the help. I googled for discalis and came up with this image at Cedar Creek. The markings doesn't seem to match.

That isn't discalis
The picture that you've linked to has been mislabeled. That one looks more like Stratiomys normula. Stratiomys discalis and Stratiomys adelpha never have central markings on the 4th abdominal tergite (the yellow triangle) and their markings in the anterior corners are more like this picture with a solid wedge and not with a broken hash in the middle.
