Seed bug? - Myodocha serripes

Seed bug? - Myodocha serripes

Maybe an immature long-necked seed bug?

Myodocha serripes
Very nice photo, Richard. This one can be identified to species, based on info under the other photo you posted in the Guide.

Long-necked seed bug is probably a safe bet
The immature Hemiptera and Homoptera are really neat looking...and hard to narrow down to species (in many cases). A lot of those guys you may have to keep your eye on until they mature. But, it does look like yours is a long-necked seed bug, genus Myodocha, family Lygaeidae, order Hemiptera (Heteroptera). We have a ton of these guys here in Texas. Good picture!

I agree.
Really nice shot of a juvenile Myodocha. These guys are in their own family now as a result of the most recent reclassification. Haven't committed the new name to memory yet:-)

Thanks, Sam and Eric.
I don't remember ever seeing one of these before in my garden. And I only noticed this one because it crawled into view while I was trying to photograph something else. Thanks for the info!
