ichneumonid larva on longjawed orbweaver
Hyde Park, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, USA
April 10, 2013
Size: spider about 3 mm
The Polysphincta sp. group in Pimplinae is "unique within Ichneumonidae" as ectoparasitoids of spiders (Gauld and Dubois, 2006). On fallen twig on W bank Mother Brook, upstream side Reservation Road.

Possible Genus
In your photo identifying the spider you indicated the genus to be Tetragnatha. The only genus of the Polysphincta genus group that is recorded on Taxapad as an associate of Tetragnatha is Acrodactyla.

re: Possible Genus
Very interesting
Spider keyed to genus based on eye arrangement, but I can't find a visual match
BugGuide images show ichneumon larvae on variety of spiders

Spider Genus
Perhaps a spider person will comment on your ID, and if the genus were to be different, there might be other ichneumonid possibilities. Of course, the best way to identify the ichneumonid would be to rear the adult.

Moved
Moved from Pimplinae.
