Mystery orb weaver - Mangora

Mystery orb weaver - Mangora
Johnston Mill Nature Preserve, Orange County, North Carolina, USA
September 9, 2006
Size: half inch long
This is a very common species of spider found mainly in heavily wooded areas where I live.

Moved
Moved from Spiders.

Thank you!
It's wonderful to know the ID of a spider I see all the time but just couldn't pin down. They always turn their ventral side upwards -- and usually toward the trail I see them from!

Sorry we can't be of much help -
We just don't know them well from the ventral side. The small size and spiny green legs make us think Mangora. You might check there if you have a sense of what the dorsal surface looks like.
