Species Spilosoma virginica - Virginian Tiger Moth - Spilosoma virginica
Wellesley, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA
September 9, 2006
I am quite familiar with this site and this is the only catapillar I have seen to date.
About 30mm long. Moves pretty quickly when provoked!
I coaxed it onto a large leaf. Those are blades of grass in the background.

By those scattered longer hairs
I think this is probably a Virginia Tiger Moth.

Excellent ID again
Thanks!
