White-lined sphinx moth (Hyles lineata) - Hyles lineata

White-lined sphinx moth (Hyles lineata) - Hyles lineata
Coolidge, Pinal County, Arizona, USA
April 23, 2013
Size: 2 inches
There were two moths feeding on hollyhock nectar that night. They were not shy but they moved so fast it was difficult to get a photo of them. One of them tickled my back as I was trying to take their picture. I looked for them to return on subsequent nights but they've been a no show, even though they are quite plentiful in the vacant lots behind our yard.

White-lined Sphinx - Hodges #7894
Moved from Moths.

Welcome to BugGuide!
LD,
Distinctive FW pattern for Hyles lineata. White-lined sphinxes are crepuscular, so you're most likely to see them at dusk.
