Vespula squamosa - female

Vespula squamosa - Female
Big Oaks NWR, Ripley County, Indiana, USA
April 28, 2013
Found crawling along a rotten log on a forested rocky bluff. It was large, but not as large as the European Hornets I've seen.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

For hornets & yellowjackets...
...will you find the pic more quickly if it's left in ID Request or moved into the Guide (say, to Vespinae)?

Thanks guys
I wondered the same thing...

Either is fine with me
When I check BG I always glance at ID request as well as the higher taxon levels of the wasps

Southern Yellowjacket, perhaps?

If I'm right (wait for the experts), it would be BG's first image from Indiana.

Thanks Ken
Very cool! I hope that is the case, it was a pretty one.
