Sandia Mountains, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, USA
April 28, 2013
Size: 0.491 mm dorsal shield
Download high resolution image here.

I collected this mite on Tree Spring Trl. 147, 9000 ft, Sandia Crest 7.5’ quadrangle in the Sandia Mountains, Bernalillo Co, NM from a Berlese funnel loaded with forest floor detritus collected from under and around a rotting pine log in a conifer forest. The log was heavily decayed, with most of its mass having disintegrated.

Further ID is appreciated.

Adult Uropodoidea
Dave Walter responds,

"Looks like it probably is an adult Uropodoidea (ventral shields are better indicators than dorsal shields). Unfortuantely, except for a few distinctive genera, the uropodoids are intractable. Most of the previous work is in German and the workers even more peculiar and idiosyncratic than most acarological taxonomists."
