Strange bugs in East Tennessee (aliens maybe lol) - Dynastes tityus

these bugs were found in the compost of a rotting maple tree. there were about 6 that we know of and they seemed to be in 3 sets of pairs. Does anyone know what these are? my co-worker's husband thinks they are rhinoceras beetles.?
