Common Conehead - Neoconocephalus triops - female

Common Conehead - Neoconocephalus triops - Female
Durham County, North Carolina, USA
October 2, 2004
Size: 50 mm
Found at a lighted building. Captured, chilled, posed, and released. (Chilling did little good, it was soon jumping off upon a brief warming.) Length of this individual, measured from head to tip of folded wings, was 50 mm. I hope to figure out the species on this at some point--Helfer, How to Know the Grasshoppers, and Singing Insects of North America have some detailed keys or descriptions.
