Straight-lanced Meadow Katydid - Conocephalus strictus - Female
Fews Ford section, Eno River State Park, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
October 2, 2004
A wicked ovipositor on this one. A female, found in a power line right-of-way. Looking at ranges and the diagram of ovipositors for this genus at Singing Insects of North America, it seems this is Straight-lanced Meadow Katydid, Conocephalus strictus. The very long ovipositor is distinctive.
