soil centipede - Geophilus vittatus

Size: approx 9cm
Seems to have 1 pair of legs per segment and stretched out would maybe have been 9cm long. It was narrow and curled below the flapping bark of a birch tree (outdoor temp 1C and snowing).. Its ends orangy in colour and translucent the centre showing dark through a translucent "skin."
Is it a centipede?
(This soil centipede is the second record posted for Canada.the prior post was from Wellington,Ontario in May 2000. It has also been spotted in Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Tennessee and Wisconsin
