Eulonchus ? - Eulonchus marginatus - female

Eulonchus ? - Eulonchus marginatus - Female
1.7 mi. NNW. of Antelope Fire Control Station, Willow Springs, San Benito County, California, USA
May 15, 2013
Size: 9.4mm length.
While hiking back up the trail after photographing a Delphinium, I saw this guy on Cirsium occidentale; he exhibited no movement, so I assumed he was dead, much like this individual . So I took a couple of photos with the Nikon 60mm macro and then hiked back up to my truck to get the Canon MP-E 65mm in order to take closer photos. When I returned to the thistle, he was still there and hadn't moved, so I took more photos. When I placed the collection container over him, he started to move, obviously not dead after all.

Great catch Gary!
Definitely Eulonchus. It looks like the new species I collected just south of Panoche a couple years ago. Your specimens are coming from the hills just across the valley, so its probably the same thing, but I'll need to see them. I have a couple of friends that are starting to work on revising the genus. At last!!!
