Red insect with some black spots on lower body - Cimex lectularius
Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
May 17, 2013
Size: .75 cm (l)
Possibly this has been biting or stinging people in the house. Plays dead very convincingly when the container is moved, and hides fantastically.

control
I would suggest immediate control measures if you found this in your house.

My suggestion is Envincio products such as this one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008B9WXO8

or this one:

Bugguide
Does not or should not make suggestions on control measures, not knowing any of the situation or environmental conditions, especially in the case of something as difficult as bed bugs. Its not as simple as spraying some insecticide around. Bedbugs have made a comeback due to the fact that they have become resistant to insecticides, such as DDT. Please contact your local health department for assistance.

pest control
I am a pesticide professional, having over 20 years experience in the chemical business. I only make knowledgeable recommendations.
I do agree that bedbugs can be serious, and if the problem is not treated immediately by the homeowner or a pest control professional it can be a serious health problem.
I will refrain from making recommendations in the future. Sorry.
