Velvet Ant ID Request - Chyphotes - male

Velvet Ant ID Request - Chyphotes - Male
Camp Wood, Edwards County, Texas, USA
May 22, 2013
I believe this a different species of Velvet Ant from the one posted earlier at ? Possibly a nocturnal Sphaeropthalminae? I had one ID'd a year ago that was ID'd as Spaeropthalma auripilis, but it had dark, almost black wings.

Bradynobaenidae: Chyphotes sp., male
This is a bradynobaenid in the genus Chyphotes. They superficially look like mutillids.

Moved from Velvet Ants.

Sorry about that!
Did I redeem myself with this one?

Or is that guess wrong as well? (At least I didn't move it beyond order.)

No worries at all!
This new one is a brachycistidine tiphiid -- the nocturnal aculeates can sometimes be tricky.

You're not kidding!
I'm gonna have to be more careful. :)

That was fast!
Thank you very much for the help. Sorry I got this wrong. Really enjoyed seeing the other one!
