Why isn't this a Rubbed Dart - Euxoa detersa

 
That's a better guess, I think
Even lighter variations of tessellata (such as the ones I linked to earlier) have some amount of black between the reniform and orbicular spots - which is lacking in detersa and this photo.

I may have paid too much attention to the pale tuft of hairs at the base of the wing (better seen in this photo) - which Covell says is a feature of tessellata - but perhaps other species have it too.

Euxoa species
my guess is one of the variations of Euxoa tessellata, like the one shown at CBIF and at the bottom of this MPG page
