These are actually photos of two different assassin bugs. The one with the beetle I stumbled upon and was impressed it managed to get the underside of it! The other, with the flying ant was patience. There were so many of them running around on the ground and a few crawling over the milkweed plant. So knowing were the assassin bug was I watched the unsuspecting ants climb up the stem of the plant, onto a few leaves until one of them went onto the wrong leaf. It reached its final demise. It was nature at its best!

I've never seen an assassin strike. I'll have to make a point of watching one for awhile.
