golden spider - Hypsosinga pygmaea

golden spider - Hypsosinga pygmaea

September 12, 2006
Found this odd looking spider in my children's sand box.. I have never seen one with such a gold abdomen before, it almost looked like a moving earing at first. Would love to know what it is, couldn't find it in the guide!

Nice
I would like to know what it is, too. Any idea on the size?
Was it dug up or dislodged from the sand (had the sandbox not been used for a while?), or just crawling around?
If IDed, it is likely a new species for the guide.

location...
it was on the underside of the plastic cover of the sandbox. I am really horrible with measurements, but it was really tiny, about the size of a very small jumping spider (a couple mm's) to give perspective these were taken at full magnification (1:1) on a 1.6 crop sensor, so I guess from that we can deduce that it is about 3-4mm's.

hope this helps!
