Flea Beetle - Mantura chrysanthemi

Flea Beetle - Mantura chrysanthemi
Acton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
May 27, 2013

Mantura chrysanthemi (Koch)
Specimen now a photo-voucher. Thanks Tom.

Mantura for sure. I still don't know absolutely sure how to separate the two species. Ed Riley tells me that they should be separable when compared side-by-side, but he's unaware of anything published about the matter.

Comparing the specimens from MA that Tom sent me to a couple from KY (which should be M. floridana), the MA ones have less deeply impressed basal impressions and a somewhat differently shaped lateral margin of the pronotum.

Moved tentatively; these are among the best-looking alticines
Moved from Flea Beetles.

dunno why do they look so disproportionately cute to me
