pompilid - Anoplius

pompilid - Anoplius
buffalo national river, newton County, Arkansas, USA

Size: ~15mm
this is the really the only picture i could get... not great but perhaps A. semirufus?

Probably Pompilinus
This is probably in the subgenus Pompilinus. The abdomen is distinctly dull (not due to picutre quality:-) and the pubescence appears dark (semirufus would appear quite grayish on at least the thorax). However. without seeing the wing veins its hard to be completely sure...after all, as Evans points out, Pompilinus is probably just an offshoot of Arachnophroctonus. That's just a more complicated way of saying that these subgenera are going to look REALLY similar.

wasp
so, safe to move to genus Anoplius... perhaps Anoplius splendens within that subgenus? i can not tell if i am making any progress in learning my Pompilids, but i really do appreciate the time you put into helping me, and so i thank you Nick.

Yeah
it's safe to move to Anoplius. It would be tough to make a call in that subgenus, but it is possible that it is splendens.

wasp
thanks, i just wanted to give it a possible name within my own pictures.
i do not know if you saw the little Pompilid i posted earlier, with the crab spider. just in case it was missed, i thought i would bring it up... i think i am just going to move it to family for now because i am still not sure of anything else.
